Working Song 03:29
Do you ever feel the tug and tide? Like a tumbleweed left on its side I can always feel it at the start Like a lighter struck deep in the dark But when I get close to something real Oh... But when I get close to something real I freeze Does it always have to be like this? Task lists read like threats Goddamn I'm super stressed and I Thought this could be it Tick tock tick, my jawbone's throb That tired guilt is such a jerk I try and try to love my job But still it ends up becoming work It must be all my fault How did I fail? Where did I go so wrong? I run out that stupid clock And every day it leaves me staring blankly at my dinner plate Wondering when I can go home

Thursday 03:57
So another day is really over.. Oh can you believe it my friend? I know! We can go insane or we can just take it slow And I can't believe they didn't tell me They were going out tonight! oh well What do we need them for? we got our own flow Sun won't be around all that much longer But I don't care - at all! We'll make the most of what we got, stay up all night Oh and when the morning comes I gotta pay the price So why not make it worth our while? Believe it Finally we're free for a little while Ready to redeem that restless child We don't wanna care anymore, don't care anymore Don't wanna care anymore, don't care anymore Don't wanna worry Tomorrow won't be easy But tomorrow isn't here So let's go out like it's the end of the year Believe it Finally we're free for a little while Ready to redeem that restless child We don't wanna care anymore, don't care anymore Don't wanna care anymore, don't care anymore Don't wanna worry Oh no!

Same Lesson 03:02
It's always the same lesson How do I follow the signs in the stars? When I can't see the direction of The milky way that was so clear on summer solstice? It's always the same lesson And I'm scared to go back there 'cause I know what I'll find I don't know if I can handle the breakdown of The stories that I've told myself the past months to get by But maybe there's nothing there Maybe it's all built up and there's nothing to fear Maybe it slipped away And maybe that's okay It's always the same lesson

Stare at the fire! Stare at the charred eyes of a burnt-out liar His skin set and sunken and out at the pyre Golden embers sing out in choir And I can't see what's left of the world of my dark twisted head I bought my own sheets so I made my own bed But the point of it all has escaped my soul Burning with the coals So... Stare at the fire Stare at the ashes of all we desire Stare at the things which we couldn't inquire Rotten wood all tangled in wire And I can't see what's left of the world of our dark twisted heads We bought our own sheets and we made our own beds But the point of it all has escaped our souls Burning with the coals

Connecting through the city wall You heard me breathing I told you what I wish I thought My lips believing Supremely awkward in the hall You called me over You cried into my dirty shirt A bloody shoulder And the tide looks long but soon returns us back to shore And I say what I want cause I don't think anyone's keeping score Behind an ancient drive to feel And the seeds of life fall and grow on their own time A night suspended in reverse An empty evening Our shadows lengthen on the wall Our words receding A tired conscience keeping still After all we've got to live And rest to forgive And God knows whatever else is in the plan And God knows whatever else is in our hands I'll see you on the back side of this rainbow Wherever all of the rest must surely go And the tide looks long but soon returns us back to shore And I say what I want cause I don't think anyone's keeping score Behind an ancient drive to feel And the seeds of life fall and grow on their own time Exposing to your hidden hell My only meaning We're slowly coming to expect The things we're seeing

about

In the summer of 2020, we fled to the woods. Most of these songs were written during a week spent in Western Massachusetts. They reflect a dissatisfaction with the the realities of working life, consumerism, and environmental harm which define our American lives. But perhaps there's hope there too, in a reality not yet realized, in the songs of the birds and the trees.
